I'm building a 1 1/2 story cabin in Alaska. Walls will be 12' and then a 12/12 pitch cathedral ceiling--peak of roof will be 24' above floor level. I plan to cover ceiling with 1x6 tongue & groove pine. I am considering using 4x12 drywall installed vertically and then applying 1x6 pine "battens" along each vertical seam for the walls. I would be able to avoid taping those seams and also continue the 1x6 theme. I prefer not using texture and would also avoid the difficult task of getting a smooth enough finish with only amateur taping/mudding skills. (I can handle the screw sites). Has anyone seen something like this done before? Will it look weird? any input gratefully received. (cabin is 24x24 with 10x4 loft and a two story 10x24 covered porch/balcony)
