Hi, this is my first post and my first big project on my house.
I want to remove all the plaster in my small Seattle home and add some insulation, some more electric boxes, and better lighting. Most of the electrical work is being done by a family member that is a professional electrician. The house is an 1920 Craftsman home in good shape, but it could use some new windows and just a more updated feel. I also want to add a second floor the the home. Right now the master bedroom is upstairs and a bathroom. But the bathroom is rather small for my 6' self. Many of the other homes in the area starting to add 2nd floors. Should I take photo's of the framing for engineers to look at?
At any rate, I am doing most of the work myself. I have already taped off the room, covered the wood floors, and sealed the room so that dust won't escape into the HVAC or rest of the home. The outlets have also been turned off.
I hope to redo all of the rooms downstairs over the next year. Should I purchase all the windows for the house now or wait until I am doing each window? I am worried that certain models don't be available in the future and I will have miss matched windows.
Does this type of renovation require a work permit?
For the most part I feel comfortable with the work and I have the gear needed for drywall and demo. Other then getting a dumpster does anyone have any suggestions. Should I pay to have anything checked out or looked at like the framing before I do the drywall?
