I have been interested in re-newable energy as far back as I can recall (I just turned 50 this past July). So much so that during 1982 through 1984 I was employed by a Texas firm out of Abilene (LaJet Energy) to act as the on-site construction manager/responsible prime contractor on a solar energy power plant that we built which was located in the mountains north of San Diego (Warner Springs, CA).

So with this bit of history in my past I am excited to finally see the green building program (products, inovations and design) gaining a great deal of traction over the past decade.

With this I (my company) has just became a member of the USGBC and am in preparation to take the LEED NC examination. I am working on developing (just now starting the schematic design) a Sr. Housing project where I hope it can pencil out to design and build for LEED certification at some level.

Should this happen I will enjoy learning the certification process first hand being that I will control both the design and the construction of this project.

Is anyone else on this forum actively involved in a LEED project? I would love to hear your experiences.

Don

Thanks George for the reply. I did purchase the LEED NC v2.2 guide and am about 1/4 of the way through my study of it. A great deal of information to put into this 50-something brain of mine :-D.

BTW - I did become a USGBC member and am just starting to get into the resources that they have available on their website (not to mention that I will save a $100. off my exam fee:p) matter-of-fact, I just received my $300. member certificate and hung it on the wall of my home office today (my wife says that I have too many things hanging on the wall already).

Welcome to the forum George!!!!

Regards, Don

I passed the Leed Exam a year and a half ago. It was a little harder than I thought. Some of my friends are studying for it right now and it just makes me so relieved I got it over with.

I was involved in a LEED project in Denver. We spent months of time during the project gathering all the information and getting them to accept the points. It was a two part project - reuse of an existing building and a new 12 story office building. Towards the end we were running out of budgeted funds and they didn't finish the LEED cert. 2 years later they revisited the project and ended up getting the certification.
