planing AZEK trim boards?

i know you can rout and cut AZEK boards, can they be surface planed? I'm sure they can be, however, I'm curious about the finish quality after planing, will the sheen remain the same?? what about sanding? Does it leave more sanding marks than wood?? I have a piece that has scratches in the back and I want to use the smooth side (back) to trim out an enterance door.

i have planed azek, my knifes are sharp and it came out OK.

you can plane it but to get rid of scratches us 220 grit with a orbitial sander.
