Estimating Horizontal Grout in CMU Walls

I am looking for a simple formula for estimaitng Horizontal Grout in a CMU wall

I've always used 19 cubic feet of mortar per 1000 8x8x16 CMU for 3/8" joints. This is for horizontal and vertical joints. For just horizontal joints you would want 2/3 of that number or approx 13 cubic feet per 1000 CMU.
