OK, here's my 'actual' latest creation. Customer asked me to design her a small and unobtrusive, maintenance-free, one-of-a-kind deck. Here's what I came up with.
Looks good Tom - how is that material to work with?

Thanks Rich, it's easy enough to work with, just gives you 'confetti' instead of saw dust. My main complaint would be that the 'fascia' boards are too thin (about 1/2") and flexible, and therefore tend to be 'wavy' (until you go back around and adjust every screw by hand). Also, it's even more important than usual to design 'modular', because the decking lengths are only 12', 16', and 20". And the railings can be bought only by the 'kit', 6' or 8'. I learned the 'hard way' with a 12 1/2' upper section and an 8 1/2' lower section (no seams). and mostly 5' railing sections.

Nice looking deck! Is that stuff "colour through" or is it just a wear layer?

It's colored all the way through. It really is nice stuff, I've always just done wood decks before, but I gotta' say, I'm really impressed with it.

I saw a episode of home time a couple weeks ago with Mr Satan (aka Bob Vila) a couple guys were installing that new decking material, seemed very cool to work with, and a deffinet technique to building with it. Said it turns to a nice weathered grey and stays that way.
