Good move. I had one gal look at my one page pre-construction services contract and said "I'll have to have my lawyer look at this". I passed on the job. If she's going to nitpick something that simple I don't even want to think about the selections on a 3000 sf custom home.

Wow, both very good moves. I've had a couple cases like that myself and told them they could do the job themselves!

just playing devils advicate here but i think you
better get use to it boys. evolution is a wonderful thing. people are getting smarter with there money and their getting smarter in their decision making process. people want exact, concise results. people want to know where there money is going, people want to know what is in the fine print, people want to protect themselves, there assets and there family. contracts help control the quality of work in a certain time frame. contracts regulate you to do the exact high quality job you said you were going to do. contracts inforce that. contract mistakes cost people billions of dollars a year. there isnt anything wrong with having anything double checked either for quality or legality purposes. i know what it is like being on both sides, i own my own business and i am also a consumer. when i make bids, my numbers are exact, every variable has been thought of and taken into account and if i cant think of every variable i find someone who can, i expect the same. example, the other day i had a plumber come in and give me a bid/estimate on moving a washing machine water line to a different location. he said it would be about $500. i said,"about?" he said," i cant tell you exactly what the amount will be until after the job is done." so i politly told the man," look, either you know what you're doing or you dont and because your math skills are not up to par, it isnt going to come out of my pocket." he said," well there can be unscene problems that can arise. i said," ok, well you might want to take that into consideration when you make your bid and you might want to spend more than 5 minutes looking at the job you may get to perform because the bid you make will be the price i pay and dollar more." this is a time when people need to reflect on, just because you have a skill, doesnt mean you are a business man or a mathmatician. when bids are low and final price is high, it means three things. one, it means bad math. two, means you dilibratly try to make a higher profit. three, there was an unforescene problem. if i bid on a job and my math and my analytical procedures just so happen to be off and and i bid wrong, well that just means i eat it and cut my losses, i dont on the other hand turn down a job just because someone wants to check behind me for there own security or mine. if the bidder had to eat more of there mistakes than i think it would weedout some of these one year technical trade school jerk offs that think their business men that take their lack of math and analytical skills and pawn it off on the consumer to foot the bill. i aslo understand about picky people and how they can be a pain in the butt. we have to think about it two ways. is this person being picky as in, unlogical, unrealistic, indesicive or picky as in smart and want to stay protected. based on that, well, its just one more business decision you will have to make.

First, learn how to accurately present you opinions. You will have more impact.

I have been grading 4th grade compositions for a national service - only 60,000 to go for the state I am working on.

Based on the guidelines your dissertation would get a "2" on a scale of 1 to 4 for 4th graders ("4" is the highest). It takes special review to give a score as low as a "1".

Check your descriptions, grammar, punctuation, capitalization and the run-on sentences and then take a look at organization and paragraphs. That is the reason contracts are written for maximum clarity.

No one is going to bother with a difficult to read dissertation, no matter how correct it may be according to the facts.

I hope you do not attempt to rewrite or propose a contract you wrote.

I don't typically tolerate this form of behavior, I left concretemasonry's post up because although curt, it was spot on. I find it pretty hard to believe you have a masters, that was one exceedingly poor piece of writing. I also find myself "busy" when approached by a potentially toxic client...
