Has anyone worked with this stuff? Sorry, I can't post a link yet.

It's a trowel applied, acrylic based exterior coating that, when cured, simulates a rough stone or stucco type texture. It's what was used on my house when built 10 years ago.

I would now like to use it on a backyard shed to match the house. The shed is 2x4 framed and sheathed with plywood. The exterior is Hardy cement board (painted). Can I apply the Durabond directly to the cement board?

On my house, the exterior is (from the inside out) plywood, styrofoam (open cell), fibreglas mesh and then the Durabond. I wonder if I need the mesh to give the Durabond a bonding surface. There is no mention of needing it in the literature on Durabond's website.

Every "stucco" type of styrofoam parging system I have used so far has specified a mesh-like product in the basecoat. I think it probably has less to do with the bonding requirements that it has to do with tensile strength and puncture resisitance.
