I am installing metal 5V crimped roof over rafters spaced 16" oc, and 1 x 3 purlins spaced 24" oc. I will be using 1 1/2" Hex Head screws. How far apart should I space the screws? Thanks!

Would they not be installed on the purlins at 24" oc?
Exactly right mj.
The up slope spacing should be 24" and the left to right spacing will depend on how wide your metal is. If it's the standard 2' width I would suggest putting on in the middle and one on the overlap side - which essentially gives you 3 screws per piece. If it's 3' wide go with one additional spacing it out accordingly. This gives you a nice clean look when you're all done too.
Predrill the sheets - usually you can get 10 or so in one shot - make sure to drill straight or have 10 replacement bits. I think we used 5/64" bits.
If the metal is a delta rib style make sure and put the screws in the valleys not the peaks. The metal needs the peaks to allow for contraction and expansion of the roof.

I was just checking Vicwest's website. They have a product called 5V as well but they are missing the PDF of the installation specs. The other profiles are there and they show a screw on the lap side of each peak. The 5V profile in on Vicwest's website is double peak left, double peak right and a single peak in the center. That would make your three screws (two shared) correct. Would you put the center screws all on the same side or stagger them left and right?

Thanks for the replies!
If I understand you correctly, this how the screws should be layed out:
^*^-----*-----^-----*------^*^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^*^-----*-----^-----*------^*^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^ ^------------^------------^ ^
^*^-----*-----^-----*------^*^
mjpliv, that is the same layout as the product I have. Double peak left & right, single peak middle. The product overall is 26", yet w/ the overlap, it is a even 24".
Thanks again!

I think you can eliminate one screw and snug the remaining center one up close to the center ridge. Does the roofing manufacturer have a website with the installation instructions on it?
(Nice graphic by the way)

Unfortunately, I bought the product from Lowes, and I can't seem to find the manufacturor anywhere.
As I looked closer at the right and left double peaks, I noticed how one side's peak is like this:
^-^, yet the other side was like this:
^^.
Which side should go on the top, if it even matters?
Thanks for the help!

I would say whatever gives you the best appearance. Spacing between all the screws should be the same... so it would probably be all to the same side.

Just for anyone else who wondered, I just found the correct way to install 5v crimped roofing:
Our special "U" over "V" anti-siphoning channel system provides excellent leak resistance.
