I've been looking into whole house ventillators, and would like to see if anyone has experience with them.

I own a single story house with a finished attic -- the upstairs rooms are built with the left and right corners of the ceiling cut by the roof line. There is a crawl space above the central ceiling, and along both sides of the rooms. Each room has one small window and BOY does it get hot up there. The house, including the two upstairs rooms (and not including the finished basement), is about 1200 sq ft. I'd like to install a ventillator fan in the ceiling above the stairwell from the first floor.

I've been looking at whole house ventilator fans by Broan, Nutone, and Tamarack. Is there anyone else I should consider? Tamarack claims to have quieter fans (at twice the price of broan/nutone)-- but they are slower than Broan/Nutone (1000cfm as opposed to 3000cfm). I also need something that will seal well (I live in Maine).

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

I think the model I saw in one house was a Broan. It was somewhat loud when you were in the attic space - but the bedroom beneath it you could just barely hear it. They had it hanging in the attic with isolation supports and it was well insulated in the ceiling.
As far as performance of the unit or any other unit I have no idea.
