--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will be enclosing my patio to create a sunroom. I have (more than) a few questions about the framing of the doors and windows. I live in southern California near the ocean. We have only a three season climate, some would say two seasons.

The roof is going to be a shed roof. The roof will attach to the house on two sides - the highest end and one of the two sloped sides. Both of these seams/joints will be protected from the weather by the 24" eaves of the existing roof.

I was planning to use standing seam roofing (copper or aluminum). Is a roof slope of only 1"/18" adequate to provide run off for the roof? Would I be better off with a "rubber roof" of the type they use for flat roofs?

The roofing metal manufacturer will be able to answer that question as relates to their warranty. I wouldn't go that shallow myself.

Don,

Thanks for answering.

The roof pitch is restricted on the high side by the existing building and its roof. It is restricted on the low side by the header over the doorway.

I've been researching this during my free time for two days now. I am moving in the direction of using a flat roof design, except mine has just enough pitch to shed water. I think this means some sort of impermeable membrane roofing. The bad news is these are UGLY! The good news is these are inexpensive.

I was thinking of using standing seam roofing over this (white coated steel, for instance) as a decoration.

If anyone has experience or thoughts on this topic, I would certainly like some more input.
