1 1/2 story cabin in Alaska--24x34 including double decked covered porches. 1 2/12 pitch roof and 10x24 loft with 4' wide catwalk to top deck. Walls are 12'. Heated with fuel oil with TOYO heater which used 300 gallons of fuel oil for $50/month average year round.

Looks nice.
I'm curious though, is the front railing acting as a structural tie, or is the ridge beam sized to cantilever out that far? I see no support for the outboard end of the ridge and no other tie to keep it from sagging over time.

The ridge beam is a 6x16x36' glulam. The eaves are supported by 4x12 timbers set into the sidewalls and supported on 4x6 posts tied down through both decks to the sonotubes. The rafters are 2x12s. The 10x24 loft framing also contributes to the roof geometry with the loft framing resting on a 6x12x24' glulam spanning the width of the cabin. A 4' wide catwalk runs from the loft to the door onto the upper deck. I think the upper deck framing also contributes to the rigidity of the roof geometry. The eaves extend 4' out from the sides (5' on the run) to provide a clearance for snowdumping from the large roof area-----a design feature that may cause problems if tried in a high wind area.

Ah, now I see. I figured there had to be more than I was understanding. It is a nice look.

What was the time frame for building your cabin.

Nothing like being the great state of Alaska. The last frontier, of sorts.
I'm curious, is this your "weekend getaway" or primary residence?

It's our weekend getaway at this time----will eventually become our spring/summer/fall home----we will spend a few winter months in a home in Florida then.
