I am a total roofing newbie, but I was forced into this ordeal after a contractor I hired completely screwed me and I had to fire him 3/4 of the way into it and lost a lot of money on it. I have learned a great deal over the past 8 months, but I am struggling every weekend trying to finish this project!

Here is where I am trying to get with a front porch addition:

31 foot 6 inch x 8 feet front porch addition with a 2.25 pitch roof

I have 8 foot mono trusses that will sit on my double 2x10 beams at the front of the house and also sit on the top plate of my existing house wall. After installing these mono trusses, I will nail a 2x6 into the side of each of them.

I spent $335 on getting the trusses built and probably should have gone another route, but I had no clue how to design loads/etc. I'm doing this work all by myself on weekends when I'm not running my 5 boys to soccer or football. Anyway, here is what my "test" piece looks like: Note the string line running from the front of my truss to the peak of my shed style roof. The 2x4 is only a test piece to check the angle. I will be using 2x6 to join the truss to the roof.

The 2x4's are also temporary for the ledger, just wanted to see where the scab 2x6 would land.

Here is where the problem lies...my garage ridge and the new roof addition won't meet up. The point of the pencil is where my new shed roof will peak. (2shingle rows above my garage peak) I thought maybe somewhere the manuf of the trusses got my measurements wrong, but I checked the measurements I gave him, and everything should match up. I even did the calculations on a sheet of paper, and I should be right at this ridge, but I AM NOT!!!

QUESTION: How do I fix it? Can it be fixed short of hiring someone to fix it?

I don't know. =(

I'm thinking you could go with what you have and once you shingle it will probably hide, or not be very noticable. Cheat the line down some and put a small crown in the roof, otherwise it appears that the new trusses need to be lowered somehow or you will be ripping the tops of the trusses. Raising the outer beam a smidge (1/2") might help out too. You can cheat it to fit I think. No charge! =)

I think possibly the heel height on the truss(the direct vertical measurement of the truss over the beam or wall) was not factored into the calculation. In other words the top of the rafter was taken off from the top of the beam.
The easiest fix would be to lower the beam same amount of the truss heel.
For a standard 1/4" butt cut heel the difference in height would be 3 13/16 inches.

That looks to be approx. what you are coming out above the other ridge

If you can ...try to pocket the beam into the wall to lower it....and it should solve your problem
However depending on the window heights and existing soffit height of the garage
you may create another dilema at the soffit..
