Hi. We're building a new home that is about close to completion. While touring the place, I noticed that one of the tubs had the water line and drain on opposite ends. I brought this up to the builder who said the plumbers couldn't put the water line on the same side due to a beam. Said we can run the drain under the tub and get a tub with the drain on the other end after completion and final inspection. But said occasionally it has be to put this way in some houses.

I went home to check pics I took and found there was a beam on that end, but looking at some others tubs, also saw the water line attached to beams..

I was wondering if I can get a second opinion to see whether the plumbers could have put the water line on the same end as the drain and didn't for some reason.

Also, how common is this?

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with the studs (what you are calling beams) but it appears the drain is at the wrong end, I'd want it and the supply lines on an interior wall. I'd get this fixed before the final.

Hi. Thanks for revising so the pics show.

At this stange, the walls and tiles have already been put in. I never thought about checking that aspect of the washroom..

What would be best way to get them to fix it? Get a tub which the drain goes the other way and make the adjustment to the plumbing under it? This tub is on the ground floor of a 2 storey house.
thanks

I guess it depends on whether this is considered to be a defect. Can't say that I've ever seen this arrangement but I guess it works. It's mighty late to change it. It looks like a slab so it would involve removing the tile, the tub, sawing the plumbing out of the slab, rerouting the plumbing, and then replacing everything.
