Does any one know what happened to Joe Bartok's web site "Online Math Notes and Sketches"?
It was a great site and it looks like it is gone.

Joe mentioned a few months ago that Yahoo was discontinuing Geocities, their free web hosting service. He had built his "Math Notes" site a page at a time and the links worked in that order, it wouldn't work to just move it to another host. I think those pages are gone.
I missed that message. I would've gladly hosted anything he had. Maybe that's a section for the new website... whenever that happens.

Is there anyway one of you can contact Joe Bartok to see if there are any page to salvage that could be re-hosted?
But most of the math references lead back to Joe Bartok pages.

Yes, Yahoo shut down their free web hosting service and those Internet sites are gone.

All is not lost ... the web pages and graphics were originally created on my hard drive(s), backed up on USB sticks and CDs, and are safe and sound. I haven't decided where to host them as yet. It's a lot of time and effort to upload the files, restore all the links between pages, not to mention that a lot of free hosting has limits on file sizes, file types, data transfer, etc ...
There are still a few pages at Googlepages but they too will be going down the tubes in the near future (or automatically moved to "Google Sites").
Like I said Joe, if you want a place to store them I can give you whatever space you need.

Thanks Rich. The biggest headache is going to be sorting through all those web pages and restoring the links between related material.
I can make this a whole section on the new site if you like. Let me know how you would like to proceed.

All is not lost:
"On July 2009 Yahoo! Inc. announced that the popular free hosting service Yahoo! GeoCities was closing down. On October 26th all the existing web pages were finally deleted from Yahoo's servers. Since then, we have been working hard to recover hundreds of thousands of sites and we keep on working on the task of recovering as much of the History of the Internet as we possibly can."

Here are links to a couple of my archived Geocities home pages ...

If a link between sites is inactive, hovering over the libnk will display it in the staus window; this URL can be typed in the address bar.
My Googlepages have been moved to Googlesites. Searching using the term Googlepages and my name will return a list of these web pages.

Allright! I'm glad they could keep it up. It looks like you can sign up and edit the pages as well. Who is doing this?

Don: civic minded altruists??? http://www.geocities.ws/
It's still going to take me a bit of time for me to fix the inactive links, and upload some web pages that were originally hosted at other Geocities domains and are now really and truly history, because these pages had "noindex/noarchive" tags. Still, this beats starting from scratch!
