I'm planning a 200 SF 1 story wood frame addition with a hip roof to the back of my 2 story brick house. The wall to which it must attach is 8" thick, all brick construction (built in 1917). I am considering using ledger boards attached to the brick with 1/2" dia. sleeve anchor bolts. The floor and ceiling joists and rafters will attach to their respective ledger with joist hangers. Is this the proper way to go?

That's what I would suggest. It's much easier than trying to tear down some brick and tying directly to the wall framing. Now one thing I'm not sure about is what the structural integrity of the brick is.. you might want to look into hiring an engineer.
