Hello Everyone,

My wife and I are in the beginning stages of building a new house. The property is located in central Florida and will likely be concrete block construction. I would like to build a smaller house (around 1200 s.f.). My wife wants a larger house. If the house were built with a stem wall foundation, would it be possible to add on to the house at a later date? It would be nice to start with the more affordable 1200 s.f. and then some time later morph it into a 3000 s.f. house. Feasible?

Thanks,
Russell

Yes you can add on later, no problem. But since she wants a larger home you better listen!

Thanks, RTF. Yes, my wife usually gets what she wants. I think the future of housing is small housing - perhaps even 1000 s.f. or less. Smaller footprint, taxes, utilities, maintenance. I would like to build a very small, ergonomic structure with which I could prove my theory. My wife thinks I am crazy. And she might be right.

Thanks Again,
Russell

You can always build an addition at any time.

But I would definitely think about doing it the size you want from the beginning since it will be cheaper that way.

Good Luck!
