I have 600 feet of tile releasing from the durarock. I attribute it to very high levels of moisture in the basement during construction. The tile started showing signs of coming loose at six months. Now at two years it is nearly completely loose. Last month the homeowner heard a large bang in the breakfast area and three tiles at the wall busted in half. There are no signs of up an down movement due to settling or mine subsidence. I attribute it to the OSB subfloor shrinking as the house is drying out. Anyone else out there have a similar situation? I would estimate this is my 60th floor install. The fact that the tile is making noise as it releases tells me there was a good bond. It was a porcelain. Also, thinset did not skim over and the proper trowel was used. The worst part is I have to move a huge granite island to do the repair. My insurance says they will pay if I break the island doing the repair but not for the initial tile failure. I invite all comments or advice.
