Beginning 4/22/2010 Federal Law will require any contractor who works on any residential building to be certified in lead abatement.

This applies to plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, maintenance men and even landlords.

Fines for failure to comply can be up to $37,000 per offense.

Link no work?

My understanding is there is an extension in the works... i looked into this some months ago, there were no trainers available to me. According to estimates I've seen we need 2 million certifications through the pipeline. Seems a tad bit optimistic over the next 10 days. My understanding is they are out to make an example or two. Don't work on pre '70's buildings and have the owners call their senator to explain why you refused. This is rooted in a good idea, it is unfortunately being implemented by morons.
