I am in the process of building a new house and have a few questions for those who may be helpful:
Footers were poured about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago. With all the rain we have been having here, the new footers are now 10" under water..the basement footers, not the garage footers. My builder says it is not a concern, it is actually better for the concrete. (hmm..)
Secondly, this is probably preference, but in the basement, 3 sides of the walls will be blocked and poured. The back wall (basement garage) will be wood (only one row of block up since it will be off the ground) He asked if this is what I want. The explanation he gave was that should we decide to expand or whatever, it will be easier to expand and work with, as opposed to working with block. (Another hmmm...)
Could someone here help elaborate? Am I getting the shaft or what?

I believe he is right about concrete curing under water. I read that somewhere. I wouldn't worry about then being under water at this point in time. It is a very common accurrence during construction.. As far as the last question is concerned: it depends on a lot of things but he seems to be up front with the other stuff.

He is correct, the concrete footings being under water will make them cure more slowly and thus become "stronger."

Also, he is correct about your walk out basement wall. If you want to add on later, it's easier to do if the rear wall is wood framing. But it's also cheaper for him to build it that way, so see if you get a credit (slight) or something.
