Is there a saw that will cut river rock? I'm looking for something that's not to massive of a unit. Thanks

You can cut river saw with a circular saw if you want.. although it's not recommended. It all depends on what type of blade you have. Check out www.texasdiamondtools.com - if you want to talk to someone give John Barber a call at 303.810.6874 (Cell) or at his office at 936.756.0646. He should be able to set you up with anything you need.

I would think your best bet is a 'Cut-off' saw. You could rent a gasoline powered one (wet-cutting), or and electric one (dry cutting). The electric is smaller and easier to handle, the gasoline is bigger but less dust to deal with. They both use a diamond blade. Or if you're just cutting one or two, like Rich says, you can get a blade to fit in your circular saw.

I have a little electric tile saw with a wet pan in it - but I wouldn't suggest using it to cut stone. Even with a diamond blade.
The electric wet saws that I've seen that would be capable are pretty large units with a pump for water and a rolling track.. the blade/motor carriage stays stationary and you push the stone through it. These are probably the safest ones available.. couldn't tell you what you could rent one for.
As far as the circular saw---don't do it unless the stone is actually attached to a wall. It's hard enough to control with flat stone let alone a round river rock :)

I didn't think of that, Rich, around here we call that a 'Brick Saw', and it would probalbly rent for about $90 or $100/day. I haven't rented one in years because I use my dry-electric cutoff saw for most of my needs. The best ones I used went by the brand name 'Target'.
