Concrete in PVC drain pipe

I am in the planning stage of a shop, 40x60, and have decided I want wooden flooring instead of a concrete slab. I will set the floor on piers set 8' OC. Question is, can I build/form those piers by using 16" PVC drain pipe. Code for a footing in the county I am building is 12x12x12 with 8" of concrete, and 2 pieces of #4 rebar. My vision is pouring footing and pier in one pour with required rebar, plus vertical rebar, and bolt for sill plate.
Does anyone see any problems I haven't thought of?

I would probably use sonotube instead of drain pipe.. unless it's the look of pvc you are going for.
Other than that are you going to have a 12x12x8 pad and then hang the pipe above that to pour monolithic?

I was thinking that a 16" circular footing, the bottom of the drain pipe, would suffice, and, as I said pouring it all at once. I would lay the footer rebar as required, on cradles, and put in a couple vertical pieces at the pour, as well as bolt for sill plate.
If I wind up having to pour a seperate footing, 12x12x12 per code, should I add verticle rebar at that pour to tie in the pier?
The reason I was thinking PVC as opposed to the sonotube, I will be pouring a bit above grade, leveling the tubes, before the pour, so as to start from there with sill plate, and didn't know if the sonotube would hold the pour without flexing.
Any suggestions welcome.

As long as the sonotube doesn't get wet before the pour it shouldn't flex much at all. PVC will work - I was just thinking if you ever want to paint or put stone on you'll want to remove the form at some point.
IC on the footing portion.. the 16" gives more square inches than the 12x12 so I would assume you would be alright with it.
If you do have to do the pad footing I would suggest putting the verticles into the pad footing for the pier.
