Has anyone installed any wind turbines?

Only my Dutch ancestors for hundreds of years and most recently, my bro-in law in south western Ontario. These things are seeing quite a revival!

My wife was over visiting family a couple of months ago.

I didn't have anything to do with it but there is one on a ridgetop nearby. About a 10'er on ~50' of tower on a 4000' mountain with clear air that has to accelerate to get over it. Bumps in the terrain make the wind speed up to get across them, this was an ideal site and it is generally turning. Those sites and the tower also make them lightning rods. This one has lost one grid tie inverter that was under warranty...not sure how frequent that will be but is worth considering. Being mechanical it needs maintenance and is going to break down. It does make some serious power when its spinning hard compared to solar but I'm not sold yet. My site would not work, it really takes putting up some equipment and checking each potentially good site.

I SO want to see some of the spiral helix design windmills like Jay Leno has become affordable. It seems like a no-brainer to gather wind energy and use it, but it still isn't cost effective for most people so far.
