I have a oven that is hard-wired.
I need to make an outlet there because the new oven I need is plug-in, not like the current oven I have.
The work: installing a 220V, 40AMP outlet, in the place of the hard-wiring. I think my circuit breaker switch is also a 40 AMP, but if the case becomes that there needs to be a 40 AMP breaker switch, what will be the additional cost.

What do you have in the breaker box now?

The cost may really depend on the amount of work needed. For a 40 amp range (oven) receptacle, the wiring MUST be 8/3 copper. If you already have this gauge of wire running from your panel to your stove right now, the cost will actually be minimal. You'll probably just be paying for some material (4 11/16" box for ~$3.00 and a range receptacle for ~$20.00) and about a half hour of labour for an electrician (most likely ~$25.00 for 1/2 hour).

However, if your hard wired oven used, say, 10/3 wiring, then the electrician will have to run a new feed of 8/3 back to your panel. In this case, you'll be paying for the new wire and for the time to run it (could be quick or take a while, depending on the difficultly of the run through finished/unfinished spaces).

So you may end up only paying ~$50.00 or you could end up paying over $300.
