vinyl siding spacing

I'm really interested in using advanced framing methods but all the siding literature I have come across requires 16" o.c. spacing for the nails. How do you meet the 16" requirement but maintain 24" stud spacing used in advanced framing? I'm using 1/2 CDX sheathing with 2" EPS over that and vertical 1x3 furring strips every 24" screwed to the studs for siding attachment. I previously considered fiber cement siding that can take the spacing but would prefer to use vinyl if I can work around the 16" requirement. Any assistance would be appreciated.
