Hey guys,

I live in a new home construction. The other day I went outside to use my taps. Nothing special, connected a hose with a spray nozzle at the end. Anyways, when I open the water at the tap, it flows to the nozzle without any leaks anywhere along the line.

Now here is the problem. When I use the nozzle, after every spray, whether I hold it for 5 minutes for 5 seconds, upon release, the tap sprays out water in a quick short burst in a 360 degree range. I can only describe it as some sort of pressure release?

The one in the garage and the backyard do this. Which are my only outdoor ones. Is there something I'm missing? No water leaks when the tap is open, only upon release of the nozzle do I get a quick short spray from the tap which looks and sounds like a pressure release.

Hopefully someone can advise. Thanks.

Adam

If it is a freeze proof spigot it could be the vacuum breaker on top, it prevents water from backing into your system.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is there anything I can do to prevent the water from spraying out?

Does it happen if you release the trigger slowly? Sounds like water hammer tripping it.

Happens regardless how I release the trigger. On closer inspection, even without using it, but with with hose attached with a nozzle, and water turned on, it sprays out a regular intervals. It really seems like some sort of pressure release.

Any ideas?

What kind of pressure do you have? Any chance these spigots might have been damaged by a freeze?

Don't think so. Got the house in May of this year. And you know new home construction, most of it was done in March and April.

Although there does seem to be a lot of pressure. The nozzle didn't exactly fit super snug on the hose, and half way through the nozzle shot off.

I noticed this the other day too. In the garage I put one of those wheels on the wall to roll the hose onto. So the wheel has a short hose that connects to the spigot. With the tap closed, and when I wad pulling the hose onto the driveway, water started spraying out of the tap. The hose is so tight on the pitot that I don't understand how water can spray out like that. I'm contemplating just replacing them with regular ones if they are some sort of fancy spigots.
