building an attached garage

We are interested in building an attached 2 1/2 car garage with a deck on top, leading into the 2nd floor living room. We are told by Menards that they can help with the garage plans, but that we are on our own with the footings.

Is there a good resource for designing a foundation plan for this? I've searched the internet endlessly... so far to no avail.

Foundation plans are typically pretty easy to do. The outside line of the building will be the outside line of the foundation. The outside edge of the footing will be 4-6" outside of the foundation line.
The difficult part is when you have odd soil conditions or some other unknown that can't be accounted for. I would consult an engineer and have them draw the plan for you specific to your soil conditions, frost line, etc.
