Hello,
We have some property 800 miles away in Tennessee. We plan on "trying" to build a 16'x24' cabin, mostly all by ourselves since we just can't afford to have it built.
Questions:
Property is on a "floodplain". We've been told we have to have a "elevation survey" and they will then tell us how high to build the foundation. We will then be able to get flood insurance. Someone told us if you build above the flood level, you can get flood insurance for a 1 time payment through the government? Anyone know if this rings true?

Secondly... We had considered post/pier foundation in either treated wood or concrete. I would much rather have a contractor/builder lay a perimenter foundation for us. Any idea what it would cost for a 16'x24' foundation? (Ballpark figure?)

Thank you for any information.
Bev
