i am in need of help
i just bought a house which is in need of total restoration.
its a burnout
the house measures 38w x 28 rectagular hip roof
with a pitch of i think 4/12
with a overhang of 2ft 5in
half the roof is burn up, the other half can be saved
the roof has a truss system of 2x4's
the part that is totally finished i want it vaulted
how can i achieve this while getting my eaves the same match
as the old truss system
i know i can order trusses, but i think it would be a big headache
i would like go with 2x10's but can i achieve this
can u make the 2x10 drop to a 2x4 at the birdmouth to match
the truss eaves,
somebody please help

Yes you can, BUT, the ceiling joist formed a triangle that tied the bottoms of the rafters together across the building. Remove that and the rafters will push the walls out. The way this is normally done is to put a beam at the ridge that the cathedral rafters hang from. The beam loads need to be saefely carried all the way down to adequate footings.

The truss plant can make a scissor truss with a cathedral inside. It would probably be best to aske them to send someone out to look at what you have.

instead of using trusses on the part that is bad,
i want to use 2x10 , you r saying but a beam accross the whole ridge
what size beam should i use. , instead of using scissor trusses, on the roof that is bad
which is half the roof, i wanted to use 2x10 or is it safe to use 2x8 to get my catherdal.
and how would u cut the birdmouth of the 2x10 to match my exsisting eaves
of the trusses that r 2x4's with a 2ft5in overhang
if i cut the birdmouth on a 2x10 to meet the exsisting 2x4 trusses
wont the load be weak on the 2x10 if i reduce it to a 2x4 and the mouth

It would take an engineer looking at what is there to determine what sizes/ notching allowances, beam, etc to use.
