Default Hardware quality

We're building a new log home and it's time to purchase all the hardware for doors and cabinets. I have no idea what brands are good quality - all I know is that when we remodeled our home and purchased our entry door hardware from Home Depot it looked terrible in less than a year.

Does anyone have any information about what brands are good quality?

Rocky Mountain has excellent quality - with a high price as well. I believe they have both door and cabinet hardware. Any mfg such as Kwikset, Schlage, etc has good door hardware - just don't get anything less than Grade 2.
Lee Valley has an excellent selection of good quality cabinet hardware as well.

Have you decided what brand you are going to go with?

Rocky Mountain's prices are even higher than Baldwin Hardware. I thought A/C contractors were the people to watch out for when building a house, now I know differently. I think I'm going to start a side business making entry sets. I should be able to park a Ferrari F430 in my garage by the time I finish the first month's sales.

It looks like I'm going to be putting Home Depot hardware in my doors until I can get a second job or win the lottery to buy some decent sets.

I agree. I had a client that saw the catalog for Rocky Mountain and of course wanted them throughout her house. After I gave her the price she quickly changed her mind. The hardware was just about as much as the doors we put in.

I'd get a high security type lock. I replaced my exterior locks a while back with Medco locks. They are bump resistant.

We're building in coastal North Carolina. I've been told that exterior door hardware with a polished brass finish won't last a year in those weather conditions - humid, salty air.
I can believe it with cheap hardware.
But, with a Baldwin hardware set with their lifetime warranty? I'm not too sure, now, if those would hold up or not.

ANyone have experience with that?

Baldwin and Schlage are excellent , bronze hardware holds up well to extreme weather conditions.
