Construction Management Software
I am looking for a software package that could be used for construction management tracking of such things as, cost, QA/QC, labor, progress, scheduling etc...
Usually I find myself creating multiple spreadsheets for all these different areas, and I was looking for in all in one type software that you can create an initial database in and then have the software track all the various items.
Is there a good software package out there that others have used?

I can't say there is one that does everything you will need. I would look into Prolog, but it's expensive.

I mentioned this in a previous post, but the company EllisDon has new consulting services that I'm about to use. They have programs to track much of what you said and make sure everything gets finished. They also have a program to weed out subs so you only get the best. Here's the link if you want to take a look

I suggest that you try Asta PowerProject. It is project management software mainly for construction. Using Asta, you will have full control over your schedule. Resource analysis and management will be easy and controlled. You can track your progress weekly. It helps if you have a claim with other project parties. MS Project is easy but you have lots of items that go out of control and you can get lost. Primavera is complicated and expensive. You can see a demo and request a 30 day trial on their web site.

Microsoft Project has worked well for me. It is a common used product and many companies you deal with will use this making transferring of schedule information easy. You can track costs, labor, and schedule and breaks all of this down for you if you drill down into the software. Work packets and calendars are available through the program. My only issue with MPP is listing other subs constraints on your work, you have to insert it into your schedule and there is no way to print a constraint log for your GC or other trades. SOV’s and pay aps are not included in this but there are many forms of 702 and 703’s available. Keep in mind that this is what I use and I am not saying that it is the best, but it will do nearly everything you need.

I use MasterBuilder for job cost tracking, invoicing, change orders, etc. and MS Project for project scheduling.
What I'm looking for is some kind of software for crew scheduling -- esp long term. I made an excel spreadsheet, but I'd love to be able to look at a chart that shows when all projects are starting, how many people will be working on that job, when we're stretched or bloated so I can make sure to adjust the start dates accordingly and move guys around less. Any ideas out there?

I would say SureTrak but they are phasing it out for Primavera 6 (P6). It has the ability to manload the schedule, even put costs to it as well. I've used P3 for years, and just recently started using SureTrak. Apparently P6 is supposed to the next best thing. We're having to upgrade to P6 right now for use on a Corps of Engineers job.
