Dado
A square groove cut into a board to allow it to receive another board or panel.

Dedicated circuit
A circuit that only runs one appliance or fixture such as with a dishwasher or water heater.

Demolition permit
Authorization to tear down and remove an existing structure.

Dormer
Typically a smaller gable roof that intersects perpendicularly to another roof section.

Downspout
A pipe that is attached to gutters to allow a way to carry rain water away from the roof.

Drain tile
A plastic perforated pipe which is installed around a foundation. It is used to direct water away from the foundation.

Dry-in
To dry-in a building is to have a minimum of tar paper on the roof and all exterior walls sealed up (windows and doors installed).

DWV
Drain, waste, and vent. Parts of a plumbing system that carries water and waste to septic.
