Earnest money
An amount of money paid to a seller to show that a buyer is serious about purchasing the property.

Easement
A right-of-way through anothers property. This is a formal agreement between 2 property owners and can be transferred with the property.

Egress
A way of exiting a structure. Egress windows are required in bedrooms in a basement.

Electrical permit
A separate permit required for most electrical work.

Equity
The value difference between the real value of a property and the mortgage value.

Escrow
A third party which handles considerations (money or documents) between a buyer and a seller.

Expansion joint
A fibrous material which allows 2 items to expand and conctract without hitting each other. Such as between a foundation wall and a concrete slab.
